Mary grew up in a breastfeeding family, and having watched her own mother breastfeed her younger siblings, she always knew in the back of her mind that she would do the same. But success was delayed for 4 weeks after having a late preterm son due to preeclampsia. Fortunately, a friend told her about La Leche League while she was pregnant, and so she knew where to find help very early on.
La Leche League became a welcome monthly activity for Mary and her two boys. She found becoming a LLL Leader challenging and extremely rewarding.
As her youngest son entered preschool, Mary began working part-time in the local maternity hospital’s lactation department and became a board certified Lactation Consultant in 2008.
“Many wise woman have influenced me over the years as a mother and a Leader. I am so very proud to have been mentored by so many competent lactation professionals, three of whom have inspired and earned the Loving Embrace Award. La Leche League has been an extension of home for me over the last 10 years, and has shaped and supported me as a mother. My children have experienced a healthier and happier existence as a result.”
