Jennifer was the recipient of the 2009 Loving Embrace Award. The following is the transcription of the awarding:
The Loving Embrace Award was started in 2006 to honor someone who went above and beyond to help breastfeeding mothers in our community. This year the award is going to the creator of the loving embrace award,
Jennifer Powers.
Jennifer was accredited as a LLL Leader in 2005. Throughout this time, Jennifer has shown her tremendous commitment to breastfeeding mothers and our LLL group. Soon after being accredited, Jennifer came
up with the idea to have a Loving Embrace award. She implemented this idea in a very short time to honor someone in our community with the first award in 2006. Little did we all know she’d be receiving the award in just a few short years! Since becoming a leader, Jennifer has organized many outreach events in our community, from small things
like the display window at the library to huge things like the “For the love of kids” conference. She’s passionate about helping mothers and babies know the joy of breastfeeding. She loves sharing her story and educating mothers about the support they find through La Leche League. In fact, many of you here decided to breastfeed because you
learned something at an outreach event organized by Jennifer. She’s an amazing woman and I’m honored to call her my friend.
Jennifer, we thank you for your love and support of so many breastfeeding families. Not only have you served mothers and babies, you have led our group to a whole new level. Thank you for leading our group while giving so much of yourself in order to do so.
